Why London is the Most Thriving and Interesting City in Europe and the WorldIt has been more than two years since I arrived in the English capital for an opportunity of a lifetime. London is a city in Europe where pageantry, grandeur and modernisation are at par. As I dig deeper into its core, my relationship with this city keeps getting better. In this blog, I will share to you my love affair with the home of the royals, London.The capital of the United Kingdom is hardly living in the past, continually courting innovation and growth in its art, architecture, restaurants, and hotels. It is a thriving and exciting city that never runs out of activities to do, from simple to the most bizarre experiences. But if you are a first-timer who would like to discover London in its truest sense, then heading off to these iconic places is definitely a must-do.As you head off to central London, Westminster will be the first one to greet you warmly. There you’ll see the most popular and iconic landmark of the city, the Big Ben. The Elizabeth Tower or sometimes called the Clock Tower stands tall and proud since the time it was completed in 1859 shimmering in its golden yellow colour that stood the best among structures in the surrounding area. The clock tower’s Neo-gothic style architecture is very unique in the sense that there are no other structures like Big Ben that you’ll see in Europe or even the whole world. Adjacent to Big Ben is the ever famous Houses of Parliament where the seat of the governmental system of this great city resides. And don’t forget the red telephone boxes scattered all over London. They may not have been used for many years already but their strong British cultural appeal still remains among Londoners and tourists. When you say red telephone boxes, it’s definitely London.As you cross Westminster Bridge, there you’ll see the most gigantic observation wheel built in London, the London Eye. It quickly became London’s most iconic attraction when it opened in 2000. It is sitting down the banks of River Thames overlooking Big Ben and the Westminster Palace. As you go up the London Eye, you’ll experience London to the next level. Other than London Eye, there are other observation decks that are scattered everywhere have a glimpse of the city’s aerial view. Head to The Shard, Sky Garden or the Monument of the Great Fire of London. It is in London that you’ll one of the most interesting skyline in the world. Its skyline offers the most magnificent panoramic views you’ll ever witness in your lifetime–it is an experience of different historical timelines happening all in one place as you see the thousand years old Tower of London surrounded by medieval and Tudor houses, modern skyscrapers and incomparable structures that date back to the reigns of King Henry VIII and Queen Victoria. As you discover more of London, you’ll be lured the grandiosity of medieval palaces in the heart of the city. The two most well-known palaces are Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch.One thing that makes London very unique is the opportunity that commoners can have the chance to see the Royal Family in person during special occasions like Trooping the Colour. This impressive display of pageantry is now held on the occasion of the Queen’s Official Birthday. It takes place in June each year to celebrate the official Birthday of the Sovereign and is carried out by her personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade, with the Queen herself attending and taking the salute. On the other hand, Tower of London is the historic castle located on the north bank of River Thames that has played a prominent role in English history. It was besieged several times and has served variously as an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, the home of the Royal Mint, a public record office, and the home of the Crown Jewels of England.If you are a history buff, you will enjoy taking a trip to the fascinating historical museum scattered all over the city. From contemporary art, interesting archaeological finds and scientific artefacts, you will surely find them! The British Museum offers the largest array of archaeological artefacts from the Rosette Stone to the gigantic pillars of Greek Temples and ornate statues of gods and goddesses of the ancient world. London is also known for its lovely parks. But these are not just your ordinary parks and gardens but royal parks owned by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England. There are various royal parks in the whole of London: the Kew Gardens, St. James’s Park, Hyde Park, Richmond Park, Queen’s Park, Greenwich Park, Kensington Gardens and Regent’s Park. Cycling is the best way to discover these parks. You get a glimpse of the mulberry tree collections of King James as well as the garden landscapes adorned with wildflowers that are in full bloom during the spring and summer seasons.The last thing you should not miss is the Tower Bridge, known for its sophisticated architectural design and incomparable engineering works. It is more than just a bridge but a symbol of a strong and prosperous which solidified London’s position as a major seat in Europe for growth and development. This awesome structure is like an excited host in London, always ready to welcome you with the warmest greetings you’ll ever experience. When you see it in person, it’s as if you’ve been swept back in time, during the time of Industrial Revolution and the height of Victorian era.So these are just some of the many good things London has to offer to those who wants a royal experience in this Royal City. London will always remain the greatest gem of the Western coast. Life is never dull in London and there is always happening in the city every now and then. As the poet Samuel Johnson said, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”
